As part of 3ADAPT’s Sustainability Strategy, we are encouraging all our staff to undertake volunteering days on charitable and educational work. Jamie Rendell, one of our Sustainability Consultants at 3ADAPT, has chosen to dedicate this time as part of his volunteering with local Bath-based charity Mentoring Plus, who support young people facing challenges by connecting them with their community. Having recently been matched with a mentee and starting his mentoring journey, we decided to check in with Jamie to find out how it’s going, and why this opportunity is important to him.
I first came across the charity during my university studies in Bath and seeing the great work that they do in the local community. Bath is a beautiful and amazing city to live in, but also one of diverse demographics and socio-economic backgrounds, which can sometimes lead to a disparity of opportunities and access to support services. We at 3ADAPT share the charity’s vision that every young person deserves the chance to thrive and fulfil their potential, and I knew that I wanted to become more involved with Mentoring Plus to help achieve this.
After completing my initial training, I was delighted to have been matched with a local young person living in BANES for a period of one year. Over the last couple of months I have really enjoyed getting to know more about them, and simply by just spending time with them and providing that regular contact can sometimes make all the difference. As we continue our mentoring throughout the year I’m looking forward to taking part in a variety of activities, and most importantly hope to keep laughing and having fun together!
